Sweet Corn & Farm Fun!

A huge thank you to Mortimer Farms for hosting my family at their Sweet Corn Festival this morning!  When I blog about our experiences I am always honest and only share my own thoughts!

We just returned from an amazing day out at Mortimer Farms‘ Sweet Corn Festival.  The scenic drive was about an hour away from Peoria – a straight shot up I-17 – in Dewey, AZ!

When we arrived the kids were eager to enjoy all the fun, and we were thrilled to discover that there were not hidden charges to enjoy the different attractions.  We expected to have to pay for food – and between the Kona Ice truck, Kettle Corn, and the Harvest Meal offered by Mortimer Farms, there was something for everybody!  There were some other vendors – and lots to shop for in the store.  We absolutely loved the “old school” attractions and playground equipment.

The kids enjoyed being able to visit with goats and chickens – and seeing a variety of veggies being grown and harvested for the Harvest Meal and to stock the farm store.  All of the staff manning the various attractions were friendly and fun – we were especially impressed with 2 young boys helping at the station where you ran inside a big tire.  I am not great about guessing age, but they might have been 10? 11?  They seemed not too much older than my oldest.  Anyhow, they were high-five’ing all the little kids, challenging my oldest to race in the wheel, offering tips to get the wheel rolling – we were very impressed with how helpful and friendly they (and everyone else) was!

Kailyn (8 years old) said that her favorite part was this ride: a man-powered spinning ride (I have no clue what it’s called, lol).  A staff member pushed the wooden seats – in the shape of an X – around the large center pole, winding the rope as they turned.  Then when it got high enough he hopped on one of the arms of the benches to add some weight and get the ride spinning.  They had a great philosophy of how high to go – they stopped when the first person said it was high enough – so no one was uncomfortable to too scared.  It was nice for my younger daughter who wanted to go but was nervous.

Alannah (5 years old) enjoyed rolling down the hill (this girl doesn’t need a huge slide!), and eating her Kona Ice.

Eleanor (almost 3 years old) enjoyed the train most of all.  She is very apprehensive about trying new things, but when she saw that train she HAD to ride it.  She also devoured the Kettle Corn – sharing with her Mama – it was goooood!

Rosalie (15 months) liked the “Pony” swings.  I did not get a picture of her riding them because I was too busy walking alongside her to ensure she stayed safe, but I did get a pic of her sisters enjoying the same ride.

After making our way around all of the attractions, making some new friends (shout out to the fellow LuLaRoe wearing mama I ran into!) and having snacks – we grabbed out Harvest Dinners and then make the trip back home.  The dinner was delicious – and I regret not having a picture to share with you – but the pulled pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, watermelon, Texas sheet cake and sweet tea were so good and we were so hungry (the smells were infectious), that they were gone before I could whip out the camera.  So, you will have to take my word for it.  The meal was to. die. for!

As we made our way to the car, Kailyn asked: “When can we come back!?”

Mortimer Farms is open daily from 8am-6pm AND they have a Pumpkin Festival in October!  We’re definitely looking forward to a day of family friendly fun in October to pick pumpkins and enjoy a variety of fall-themed activities like this brilliantly designed corn maize!
