July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day (and July is National Hot Dog month)! I was inspired by images floating around social media to made a cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped hot dog! It is GOOD! It is also easy! It's National Hot Dog Month (and 7/23 is National Hot Dog Day) #nomnomnom Enjoy this recipe: Click To Tweet
What you need:
- Hot dogs
- Cheese of your choice (one slice per hot dog)
- Toothpicks (3 per hot dog)
- Bacon (2 strips per hot dog)
What you need to do:
STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
STEP 2: Slice the hot dog down the middle, but not all the way through. You want to make a “pocket.”
STEP 3: Stuff strips of a cheese slice into the hot dog. If you have extra cheese, you can choose to top your hot dog with it after it cooks.
STEP 4: Take one piece of bacon, and starting at one end, wrap it around the hot dog – ending in the middle. Use a toothpick to secure the bacon through the hot dog at each end. Then take your second piece of bacon and wrap it on the same hot dog, starting at the other end. When you get to the center, remove the toothpick and use it to hold the ends of both bacon slices.n (my pic only shows one slice of bacon, but it works better with 2 pieces, and obviously tastes better too!)
STEP 5: Place the hot dogs on a foil-lined baking sheet and cook for 30-40 minutes, flipping 1-2 times (I usually turn at 15 minutes and then if they need more time at 30 I flip them again).
STEP 6: Serve on a roll and with your preferred condiments!
